It would appear that the Hellenistic magical papyrus, which would be most directly derived from the Eleusinian Mysteries (which were dedicated to the secretive goddess Brimo), must be a summary account of the sequential episodes more fully recounted in the Alethe Diegemata. The name of Iambulus is also an allusion to Iambe / Iambos of the Mysteries. But, this recitation would surely be held formally only at a consecration of an episkopos of the Mysteries. It could be surmised that the praeliminary part (Mene) may have been for ordainment of a presbyteros. The reason for secrecy in the Hellenic Mysteries would have been to conceal is foreign (Yamani) origin.
